  collegebound results

95 % of 2008 graduates in a CBI school were accepted to college. The New York City Department of Education reports that less than 50% of high school graduates citywide go on to college.

In 2008, the CBI seniors received a total of $5.91 million in ÒfreeÓ financial aid (no loans); an average student package of $13,295 annually. The national average package for low-income students is was $6,300 and $8,300 for students in NY State. (NCES: National Postsecondary Aid Study 2004).

76% of CBI graduates in 2008 are the first in their families to go to college

Of the nearly 500 graduates from the Class of 2008 who will go to college, 73% will go to four-year colleges; 38% will enroll in private colleges and 62% will enroll in public colleges and universities.

73% of CollegeBound Initiative graduates in 2008 were the first in their families to go to college.

Of the nearly 500 graduates from the Class of 2008 who will go to college, 25% will enroll in private colleges in New York state, 14% in out of state private colleges, 28% in the State University of New York schools (SUNY) and 46% in the City University of New York (CUNY) schools.

A CBI counselor's average student caseload is never more than 100 seniors. According to the US Department of Education, the ratio of students to counselors in all public schools nationally is 451:1.

CollegeBound Initiatives has demonstrated that a $1 investment can yield a $7 to $8 return in terms of scholarships and financial aid. Over four years this is a $28 to $32 dollar return on a single dollar!

In the 2007-2008 school year CBI worked with more than 500 seniors in 8 coed and single-sex high schools and more than 5,000 students in grades 6-11 at twelve schools (including 5 Young WomenÕs Leadership Schools and 7 co-ed public schools in NYC and New Haven)
