http://www.tywls.org
The Young Women’s Leadership School of East Harlem (TYWLS, East Harlem), opened in 1996, was the country’s first single-sex public school to open in more than 30 years. TYWLS has made history and headlines preparing low-income students of color with an outstanding college-prep education, offering a personalized, dynamic, hands-on learning environment where girls can thrive academically. This school is the flagship for our network of all-girls’ public schools.

Foundation Supported Activities:
YWLN develops partnerships and provides resources and direct support services to our students and staff. Our work focuses on four priority areas: College Preparation, Math, Science and Technology, Leadership and Female Adolescent Development. A full-time CollegeBound (CBI) counselor works with girls beginning in grade 6 to build early college awareness and help attain college access. We also support new program initiatives, summer programs, after school programs and special events like career days, leadership lectures and more. For teachers and principals, YWLN provides single-sex professional development, grants and leadership support.
